Become (Alumni) Mentor for the Ain Foundry at the Ain Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation!
The Ain Foundry Mentor at the Ain Foundry Venture Hub plays an essential role in guiding and supporting early-stage student ventures by providing mentorship, advice, and strategic insights. As an alumnus of the University of ÌÇÐÄlogo the Foundry Mentor brings a wealth of real-world entrepreneurial experience and expertise to help shape the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs. Mentors will work closely with student startups and participate in a variety of activities within the Ain Foundry Venture Hub, fostering a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive environment for emerging ventures.
Mentor (Alumni) Information
- One-on-One Mentorship:
Engage in regular, personalized mentoring sessions with student entrepreneurs, offering advice on key areas such as business development, market validation, product strategy, customer acquisition, fundraising, and scaling. Each mentor will work with 1-2 student teams per semester, providing tailored guidance to help them overcome challenges and grow their businesses. - Workshops and Group Mentorship:
Lead or participate in group workshops and mentoring sessions that focus on specific aspects of building a startup, such as pitching to investors, marketing strategies, or financial planning. These sessions will be structured to provide hands-on, actionable advice and to foster collaboration among student teams and mentors. - Network Building & Resource Sharing:
Help student ventures connect with the wider entrepreneurial ecosystem by leveraging your professional network. The Foundry Mentor will introduce students to potential customers, industry contacts, investors, and other alumni who can support the growth of their startups. Sharing resources and connections will be a critical part of the mentoring role. - Review & Feedback on Business Strategies:
Provide constructive feedback on student business plans, product development strategies, and market approaches. Mentors will help student teams refine their business models, evaluate customer feedback, and develop go-to-market strategies to ensure their ventures are ready for the next phase of growth. - Participation in Pitch Events & Demo Days:
Serve as a judge, panelist, or coach during pitch events, demo days, and other public-facing events organized by the Ain Foundry Venture Hub. Provide feedback on student presentations, evaluate business ideas, and help prepare teams for investor-facing situations. - Collaborative Problem Solving:
Act as a sounding board for student founders, helping them navigate key decisions, solve complex problems, and pivot when necessary. Mentors will bring their expertise to bear on challenges like product development cycles, market-entry strategies, or operational scaling. - Contributing to the Ain Foundry Ecosystem:
Actively engage in the Ain Foundry Venture Hub’s broader mission of building a robust and vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem at the University of Rochester. Foundry Mentors may collaborate with other mentors, staff, and alumni to help shape programming, facilitate networking events, or contribute to the Hub’s strategy and growth.
- Alumnus of the University of Rochester (preference but not necessary):
A graduate of the University of Rochester with experience in founding, building, or scaling a business. Experience may span a range of industries, including but not limited to technology, healthcare, finance, and social entrepreneurship. - Entrepreneurial Experience:
Significant experience as an entrepreneur, whether as a founder, co-founder, or senior executive of a startup or venture-backed company. Experience in growing companies from early-stage to successful exits or expansions is highly desirable. - Mentorship & Coaching Skills:
A passion for mentoring and a commitment to giving back to the University of Rochester community. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as Foundry Mentors will need to build trusting, productive relationships with student entrepreneurs. - Networked within the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem:
A well-established network of contacts in the entrepreneurial, investment, and corporate worlds that can be leveraged for the benefit of student startups. Familiarity with venture capital, angel investing, and startup accelerators is beneficial.

By mentoring student entrepreneurs, Foundry Mentors help nurture the next generation of innovators and make a lasting impact on the entrepreneurial ecosystem at the University of Rochester. - Strengthen Connections with Fellow Alums:
