Eyeglasses Collection

Collected eyewear (frames, prescription and non-prescription glasses, sunglasses, etc.) are delivered to the and then sent to the to be cleaned and packaged for people around the world.

The eyeglasses collection takes place annually in the spring during the annual nationwide Campus Race to Zero Waste competition.

Since 2014, the University has collected and donated over 19,000 pairs of glasses.

Annual departmental competition

With the friendly competition of the Campus Race to Zero Waste in mind, we hold an annual departmental competition as part of the collection event. In addition to general donations, departments across the University community can compete for “Most pairs of glasses collected” and “Most eye-catching box.” A panel of judges from the Lions Eye Bank will vote on the box they consider to be the most attractive, or eye-catching. The winner of each category wins a certificate from the Lions Eye Bank and a prize for their department.

Stay tuned for the next collection event in Spring 2026!
